This project began when Deputy Kerry McKague and myself
were talking about the old days and some of the characters
that we used to work with. We compiled a list of about
150 people.
Linda Hayward, who works in Sheriff's Services, loaned me
boxes of information, such as old payroll cards and
seniority rosters from the 1950's and 1960's. Someone
was going to throw them out, but Linda saved them from the
recycle bin. This information brought the list to over 800
past employees, almost all sworn.
Retired Lieutenant Gary Hoss had several boxes of
information, most about the Sheriff's Office Association. A
booklet from the 1950's, Know Your Sheriff and some of the
Sheriff's Association Annual Ball programs provided a lot of
information from the Earl Whitmore era.
Retired Deputy John Edmonds, who wrote Cops, Courts,
Jails and Judges, provided me with some early history of the
Sheriff's Office.
Thanks to everyone who provided photos, information and
corrections.
